Why your website gets no traffic from Google
2026-10-01
A site nobody visits is rarely invisible by accident: it is unindexed, thin, interchangeable, or blocked, and each case has a different repair.
The site launched, the launch post collected its likes, and then search sent nothing. Months pass and the analytics graph is a flat line, broken only by the occasional visitor who typed the address by hand. This is one of the most common situations we are asked about, and the first thing we say is that invisibility is not one problem. It is four, and the repair differs for each.
Case one: not indexed at all. The search engine does not know the pages exist, which is the normal condition of young sites that no link points at. Case two: indexed but thin, so the pages sit in the index and add nothing the searcher could not find anywhere else. Case three: indexed but indistinguishable, the quiet one, where a hundred competitors say the same sentence in the same order and the engine has no reason to prefer you. Case four: technically blocked, where a setting, a directive, or a tangled canonical setup tells crawlers to stay out. From the outside these four look identical; the dashboard for every one of them is a flat line.
The diagnosis costs nothing. Search for the site's own pages with the site: operator and see what the engine actually holds. Open Search Console, if it is connected, and read the indexing report: what was crawled, what was excluded, and why. Then ask the queries report the honest question: does anyone actually ask something this site is the answer to? An afternoon with those two tools tells you which of the four cases is yours, and most owners have never run it.
The repair is proportional to the diagnosis. A blocked site is a configuration fix, sometimes an afternoon of it. Thin and indistinguishable sites are not fixed by settings at all: they are fixed by depth, by pages that carry something only you could have written, provenance on every claim, and a position instead of a paraphrase. That work is slower, and its pace cannot be promised; any consultant who quotes you a ranking date is selling certainty they do not have.
Answer engines raise this bar rather than replacing it. A model answering a question can only lift what stands alone: a claim sharp enough to quote, a structure clean enough to extract, sources named. We publish these essays with an authored key line for exactly that reason. Text written to be summarized, with nothing liftable inside it, now fails twice: it bores the human searcher and it gives the engine nothing to cite.
So before paying anyone to fix your traffic, run the free diagnosis yourself and learn which case is actually yours. If the answer is blocking, fix the setting. If it is depth, the work is editorial, and it belongs to someone who knows the business from the inside. We do that work for our own properties and for clients, and we report on it honestly: direction yes, guaranteed dates no.
FAQ
Direct, unambiguous answers
Why does my website get no traffic from Google?
Because invisibility is not one problem but four, each with a different repair: not indexed at all, indexed but thin, indexed but indistinguishable, or technically blocked. From the outside they look identical, because the dashboard for every one of them is a flat line. Run the free diagnosis first, then fix what your case actually is. We do this work for clients and report on it honestly: direction yes, guaranteed dates no.
How do I check whether Google has indexed my website?
Two free tools answer this. Search for the site's own pages with the site: operator and see what the engine actually holds. Then open Search Console, if it is connected, and read the indexing report: what was crawled, what was excluded, and why. Finish by asking the queries report the honest question: does anyone actually ask something this site is the answer to? An afternoon with those two tools tells you which case is yours.
How long does it take to fix a website that gets no search traffic?
It depends on which case you are in. A technically blocked site is a configuration fix, sometimes an afternoon of it. Thin and indistinguishable sites are not fixed by settings at all: they are fixed by depth, by pages only you could have written, with provenance on every claim and a position instead of a paraphrase. That work is slower and its pace cannot be promised; anyone quoting you a ranking date is selling certainty they do not have.
My pages are in Google but nobody clicks them. What is wrong?
You are likely in the quiet case: indexed but indistinguishable. A hundred competitors say the same sentence in the same order, so the engine has no reason to prefer you and the searcher no reason to stop. The repair is editorial, not technical: depth, provenance on every claim, and text written to stand alone, because answer engines can only lift a claim sharp enough to quote. We do that work for our own properties first.
