When is motion worth it?
When it answers a question: where did this come from, what just changed, what is loading. Motion that explains earns its milliseconds; motion that decorates spends them. We define which is which, in writing.
What about users who dislike animation?
Reduced-motion is a first-class path, not an afterthought: the system specifies what every choreography collapses to when the user opts out, so the interface stays coherent either way.
Can motion systems hurt performance?
Untended, yes: which is why tokens carry budgets and the reference implementations are measured on the same mid-range phones as everything else we ship.
